A balanced experienced approach is key when dealing with women problems – when you visit us you are assured of always seeing a female gynaecologist Sheela Purkayashta who has over 30 years experience in dealing with women concerns.

Dr Sheela Purkayastha, Consultant Gynaecologist at The BUPA Cromwell Hospital and in Harley Street graduated from The Calcutta Medical College, India in 1969.

Following her work in Iran as a Consultant in O&G, she came to the UK in 1979, and passed the MRCOG in 1982. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College in 1997, and FFFP in 2006. She is BSCCP recognised trainer in Colposcopy and a Family Planning instructor certified by the RCOG, London. She is a member of the British Menopause Society & had ran the Menopause Clinic at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital for a long time. She is the sole author of the book, Postreproductive Gynaecology, published in London 1999.

Teaching and Training

Undergraduate teaching

As a senior member of the department, I often hold lectures for undergraduates,nurses and midwives. I delivered my lecture entitled "Climacteric and afterwards" to final year medical students for many years.

Colposcopy training
As an accredited colposcopy trainer, I have trained nurse colposcopists and junior doctors.

Family planning training
I am also a trainer in family planning and reproductive healthcare.
